2 Text is all around us: Magazine covers Cereal boxes Street signs Do we think of it as art? Each letter can have shape and colour. There’s design thought that goes into creating. Is text only meant to be read?

Now it’s your turn. I expect you to have a clear message in your image. The image must have text in it. Your composition must use line, shape and value. Come up with three ideas for a message you want to say. What kind of shapes will help you convey those messages? Would black and white or colored text be most effective in getting your message across? Think about the background color for your imagery, should it be white, black or some other color? Will you use text cut from a magazine or draw your outline or silhouette and write your own text?
