1 The Third Petition Thy will be done.

2 What is the will of God? 1 Timothy 2:4-5 [God our Savior] wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men.

3 What is the will of God? John 6:40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” The primary will of God is that all men would be saved by faith in Jesus Christ.

4 What is the will of God? John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

5 What is the will of God? Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. God’s secondary will is that those who do not believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior will be condemned.

6 What is the will of God? 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you.

7 What is the will of God? For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. Having been saved through faith in Jesus Christ, God’s will is that we live a holy life.

8 Who and what opposes of God’s will?

9 Who and what opposes of God’s will?
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world –the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–comes not from the Father but from the world.

10 Who and what opposes of God’s will?
The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. The world, that is those things set against God, is an opponent of God’s will.

11 Who and what opposes of God’s will?
Romans 7:18-20 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing.

12 Who and what opposes of God’s will?
Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. Our own sinful nature is an opponent of God’s will.

13 Why do we pray that God’s will be done?
2 Timothy 1:12 I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.

14 Why do we pray that God’s will be done?
1 Corinthians 1:8-9 He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

15 Why do we pray that God’s will be done?
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

16 Why do we pray that God’s will be done?
He is the One that can strengthen and keep us in faith until we die.

17 Why do we pray that God’s will be done?
Romans 8:28ff. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

18 Why do we pray that God’s will be done?
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” He is the One who can support us in all our troubles until we die.
