A GI platform

4 The GIN story The GIN was created by educators of the ISL in 2003
Mission: to empower students to work internationally with their peers to develop solutions for global issues Objective: to form satellite networks of schools around the world made of actively involved students/global citizens Inspiration: JF Rischard, former World Bank Vice President Europe and his book “High Noon: 20 global problems, 20 years to solve them” – Exponential changes creating unprecedented global issues mean that complementary solutions to existing institutions are needed. The concept of networks will bring speed, flexibility and action. GIN participation encourages awareness, collaboration and action Video: web hard-disk

6 GIN today Within 5 years the GIN has spread to 5 regions: Europe Asia
1 regional conference per year – last one in Milan, October 2008 – “Peace and Conflict Resolution” – smaller scale 4th annual GIN conference – Geneva, March 2009 – “Human Rights” – max 350 participants Asia 2nd annual GIN Earcos conference – Bangkok, March 2009 Regional conference – Hong Kong, March 2009 Middle East Winter Training Institute for educators – Doha, January 2009 Educare/GIN conference – Doha, March 2009 North America NAIS 20/20 programme Summer Institute for students and teachers, June 2009 Student “Newsaction” Network, Sept 2009 Africa 1st regional conference – Dakar, late April 2009
