4. The GIN story The GIN was created by educators of the ISL in 2003
Mission: to empower students to work internationally with their peers to develop solutions for global issues
Objective: to form satellite networks of schools around the world made of actively involved students/global citizens
Inspiration: JF Rischard, former World Bank Vice President Europe and his book “High Noon: 20 global problems, 20 years to solve them” – Exponential changes creating unprecedented global issues mean that complementary solutions to existing institutions are needed. The concept of networks will bring speed, flexibility and action.

6. GIN today Within 5 years the GIN has spread to 5 regions: Europe Asia
1 regional conference per year – last one in Milan, October 2008 – “Peace and Conflict Resolution” – smaller scale
4th annual GIN conference – Geneva, March 2009 – “Human Rights” – max 350 participants
