Pollution Facts The U.S. makes up 5% of global population but use 20% of worlds energy, we eat 15% of the worlds meat and we produce 40% of the worlds garbage. The U.S. uses up to 4.1 earths but we do not consume the most, Kuwait is said to use 5.1 earths. In 2012 they said that the amount of heat trapped rose by 3% The worlds nations combined pumped nearly 38.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the air. The total amount is more then 2.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide released into the air every second. U.S. produces 5.9 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the air every second.

Types of Pollution There are 7 different types of pollution.
Air Pollution Water Pollution Land Pollution Light Pollution Noise Pollution Thermal Pollution Visual Pollution

Air Pollution 99% of our air is made of nitrogen, oxygen, water vapor, and inert gasses. Air pollutions occurs when things that aren’t normally there are added to the air. A lot of the air pollution is from burning fuels that look like soot in the air. Air pollution is linked to asthma, allergies and other respiratory illnesses. Some examples are: -exhaust fuel from vehicles - Burning fossil fuels such as coal and oil

Land Pollution Land pollution is the degradation of the Earth's surface caused by a misuse of resources and improper disposal of waste. In 2010 Americans produced about 250 million tons of garbage. There is about 4.3 pounds of waste per person per day about only 34% is recycled. Some examples include: Litter found on the side of the road Using pesticides and other farming chemicals Illegal dumping in natural habitats.

Water Pollution Water pollution happens when chemicals or dangerous foreign substances are introduced to water including chemicals, sewage, pesticides, and fertilizers from runoff. 44% of assessed stream mills 64% of lakes and 30% of bay and estuaries are not clear for fishing and swimming. 80% of the pollution in marine environment come from the land through sources such as runoff. In some cases there is nutrient pollution where it works as a fertilizer which makes algae grow at rapid rates and block light from other plants and kills them. Less oxygen in the water kills more animals.

Light Pollution Light pollution is the brightening of the night sky inhibiting the visibility of stars and planets by the use of improper lighting of communities. Light pollution uses more energy and this may effect human health and our sleep cycles. Street lamps that shine light in all directions, instead of with a hood to point light downward toward the street. Some examples are: - Extra, unnecessary lights around the home - Cities that run lights all night long

Noise Pollution Noise pollution is any loud sounds that are either harmful or annoying to humans and animals. Noise pollution can be disruptive to human’s stress levels and drives animals away by causing nervousness and decreasing their ability to hear prey or predators. Some examples are: -Airplanes -Helicopters - Motor vehicles -Construction or demolition noise - Concerts with loud speakers and lots of people.

Visual Pollution Visual pollution is what you would call anything unattractive or visually damaging to the nearby landscape. Some examples are: -Skyscrapers that blocks a natural view -Graffiti -Billboards, litter, abandoned homes, and junkyards could also be considered among three kinds of environmental pollution

Thermal Pollution Thermal pollution is the increase of temperature caused by human activity These kinds of environmental pollution can cause aquatic life to suffer or die due to the increased temperature, can cause discomfort to communities dealing with higher temperatures, and will affect plant-life in and around the area. Included in thermal pollution should also be the increase in temperatures in areas with lots of concrete or vehicles, generally in cities This can also be called global warming which is becoming a bigger threat if we don’t decide to help out our earth soon.

Benefits of our Earth Trees properly placed around buildings can reduce air conditioning needs by 30%. A mature tree removes almost 70 times more pollution than a newly planted tree. A single tree produces approximately 260 pounds of oxygen per year. That means two mature trees can supply enough oxygen annually to support a family of four. People need water to survive everyday and without it we wouldn’t be alive. A person can only survive three days without water. Soil helps our plants and food grow along with our trees and helps us and other animals to live everyday.

Ways to Keep our Earth Clean
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Walk or ride your bike instead of driving Change household appliances to last longer Buy local Brush without running your water Hang dry your clothes Eat less meat during the week Take shorter showers Don’t use plastic or paper bags when at the store use cloth.
