GENERAL
Review literature to determine relevancy, level of innovation, and likelihood of success in proposed area of research
Prepare grants and manuscripts
Review metadata associated with samples in biorepository for appropriate samples selection
Provide guidance on sample collection, storage, analytical methods, standards, environmental measures
TYPES OF ASSAYS
Broad spectrum metabolomic via UPLC-Q-TOF-MS, 2D-GC-TOF-MS, and NMR
GC-MS - organic acids, free fatty acids, and total fatty acids
LC-MS/MS - acylcarnitines, acyl coenzymes, biogenic amines, lipids, phospholipids, and amino acids
NMR and LC-MS/MS for metabolite identification
ICP-MS for metals, minerals, and metallomics
Experience with PM, VOCs, PFOS, OCs, OPPs, pyrethroids, non-persistent pollutants, phthalate monoesters and metabolites, flame retardants, and hydroxylated metabolites of PCBs and PBDEs.
DATA ANALYSIS
Statistical and mathematical tools (e.g., Umetrics, Spotfire, SAS), and GeneGo and expert biochemist interpretation
METABOLITE STANDARDS SYNTHESIS
Synthesis and characterization of mass and isotopic (13C, 15N, 14C)

Susan Sumner, PI of the Eastern Regional Comprehensive Metabolomics Research Core (ERCMRC) grant - has set aside $50K per year from the ERCMRC grant to form 5-10 collaborations with the CHHE faculty.
CHHE faculty can apply to CHHE to receive seed funds to support metabolomics analysis.
