Verb Phrases with have Unit 3 Lesson 13

Objectives Students will:
Identify verb phrases with the helping verb “have.” Use the correct form of the helping verbs “could, should, would, and must.”

Rules A main verb can have more than one helping verb.
The helping verb “have” is often used with the helping verbs “could, would, should, and must.” Could have, would have, should have, and must have. The two helping verbs and the main verb form a verb phrases.

These helping verbs are often spoken as contractions.
Could have Would have Should have Must have Could’ve Would’ve Should’ve Must’ve

Rules Do not use “of” with could, would, should, or must. Incorrect:
You should of seen the parade last weekend. Correct: You should have seen the parade last weekend.
