1 Blood and Circulatory system
Composition Function

2 Blood-Composition

3 Blood-composition

4 Plasma Straw coloured fluid 55% of blood volume
Cells suspended in plasma Helps transport of food, Carbon dioxide, waste and salts. 92% -plasma is water 8%-organic and inorganic substance

5 RBCs-Red Blood Cells Most abundant cells 99% of blood volume
Contains red colour pigment called haemoglobin Haemoglobin carries oxygen Produced in bone marrow, ribs etc 4-6 million RBCs per cubic millilitre No nucleus Life span-120 days

6 WBCs-White blood cells
Colourless-leucocytes 1% of blood volume Largest cells of blood Fight against infections Protects from Germs, bacteria

7 Associate with allergic reactions
Types of leucocytes Leucocytes Granulocytes Neutrophils 60-65% Phagocytic Eosinophils Associate with allergic reactions Basophils 0.5-1% Secrete histamine serotonins, heparin involved in inflammatory response Agranulocytes Lymphocytes 20-25% immune responses B lymphocytes T lymphocytes Monocytes

8 Platelets Small irregular bodies Thrombocyte 10 days No nucleus
Chemicals-clotting Prevents bleeding Produced in bone marrow 1.5-3 lakh platelets in each millilitre of blood

9 Regulates body temperature
Functions of blood Transportation Fights diseases Regulates body temperature

10 Blood Groups/Blood types

11 Human ABO blood groups and their compatibility

12 Rh-system 1-The Rh system consists of Rh-positive (Rh) and Rh-negative (Rh) groups. 2-These groups are identified on the basis of the presence of an antigen called Rh factor. 3- If in a person Rh factor is present, he is Rh-positive and if not, he is Rh-negative. 4-These two blood groups are also incompatible i.e. in blood transfusion an Rh-negative person should not be given Rh-positive.

13 Blood circulation

14 Components of Circulatory system
Lymph Blood Blood vessels Arteries Veins Capillaries Heart

15 Lymphatic system Lymph-clear yellowish, slightly alkaline, coagulable fluid, WBC Middleman between blood and tissues. Carries plasma proteins synthesized in liver to the blood.
