2 Important info A geocache is an outdoor recreational activity, in which people use a Global Positioning System (GPS) device e.g. mobile phones to hide and find containers, called ‘geocaches’ anywhere in the world. 5 Activity 2: Create your own geocache
Task In pairs you will be creating your own geocache in the school and grounds for others in your class to find. Step 1 Using either the coloured map of the whole school and grounds OR the detailed floor-by-floor map of the school, decide where you are going to hide your geocache. © Geographical Association, 2017

7 Activity 2: Create your own geocache
Task In pairs you will be creating your own geocache in the school and grounds for others in your class to find. Step 1 Using either the coloured map of the whole school and grounds OR the detailed floor-by-floor map of the school, decide where you are going to hide your geocache. Step 2 Go to your chosen location with your map and worksheet and write down the exact 6-figure grid reference on your worksheet in column 3. © Geographical Association, 2017

Step 3 For each number of your 6-figure grid reference you need to create a clue to find a location which has a number there. Step 4 For example… © Geographical Association, 2017

Remember The location must be a grid reference. The grid reference must be 6 figures. The ‘Geocache’ answer is what message you have left at the location of your grid reference on a piece of paper. Step 3 For each number of your 6-figure grid reference you need to create a clue to find a location which has a number there. Step 4 For example... Step 5 Now create a message ‘Geocache’ to put into the plastic tub which you will hide at your 6 figure grid reference location. © Geographical Association, 2017

Task Now it’s your turn to find someone else’s geocache. Step 1 For your own geocache complete Worksheet 2, column 1 with the clues only, ready to give the worksheet to another pair. Step 2 Now randomly hand out completed Worksheet 2 to every pair to go and find the geocache and bring it back to class. © Geographical Association, 2017
