1 The Water Cycle By: Meghan Brown

2 What do we already know about water?
How do we use water on a day-to-day basis? What  would our life be like without water?

3 What is a cycle?

4 A cycle is any complete round or series of occurrences that repeats or is repeated.

5 CYCLES cd7.e2bn.net/.../cd7/website/BluePlanet.htm

6 Water Cycle

7 The sun is needed to power the water cycle.

8 Evaporation Evaporation occurs when the sun heats up water turns it into vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam goes into the air. (DLTK, 2009)

9 Condensation Water vapor in the air gets cold and changes back into liquid, forming clouds.  (DLTK, 2009)

10 Precipitation Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore.  (DLTK, 2009) (DLTK, 2009)

11 What is Precipitation? Precipitation is: Snow Rain Sleet Hail

12 What happens to precipitation?
When the water leaves the clouds, it collects in: Rivers Streams Lakes Oceans

13 Accumulation When water ends up on land, it will either soak into the earth and become part of the “ground water” that plants and animals use to drink or it may run over the soil and collect in the oceans, lakes or rivers where the cycle starts all over again.

14 Water Cycle Songs The Water Cycle Song to the tune of: “Clementine”
To the tune of: “She’ll be coming ‘round the Mountain”

15 The Water Cycle Song To the tune of: “Clementine”
Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation on our minds They're all part of the Water Cycle and it happens all the time. Something's missing, something's missing How I wonder what it could be Oh it must be Accumulation Lakes and rivers, ponds and streams

16 Water Cycle To the tune of: "She'll be Coming 'round the Mountian"
Water travels in a cycle, yes it does It goes up as evaporation Forms clouds as condensation Then comes down as precipitation, yes it does!

17 Let's see it all put together! (Click above)

18 First, the Sun warms ocean water causing it to EVAPORATE.
What did we learn? First, the Sun warms ocean water causing it to EVAPORATE.

19 Next, water vapor CONDENSES to form clouds.
What did we Learn? Next, water vapor CONDENSES to form clouds.

20 Next, the Clouds become very heavy before beginning to PRECIPITATE.
What did we learn? Next, the Clouds become very heavy before beginning to PRECIPITATE.

21 Lastly, precipitation collects in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
What did we learn? Lastly, precipitation collects in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
