9 The educative journey – from knowledge consumer to knowledge producer
Your journey – elementary school, university and work You are an important part of our brand Your demands and expectations Our demands and expectations Personal responsibility – 40 hour work week Your attitude and your ambitions affect you and your surroundings The education you have gone through up until now is a foundation for what you will do with us. But this experience will be different from what you are used to. We are the final, formal stepping stone in your education before you enter the employment, so make good use of the time you spend here. At the university we demand high personal responsibility and commitment to your studies. As a student you are an important part of our brand and our operations; and we hope that both you and we will have a good exchange of and cooperation with each other. It is important that you think about what expectations you have of us during your time of studies, but also that you think about what role you are playing in your studies and on your way to graduating. You have many rights as a student, but you also have obligations. We place high demands on you to keep yourself informed, follow rules and that you yourself are responsible for your studies. To us it is very important to follow principles of legal certainty and equal treatment. You should know that as a student there are regulations in place to protect you from discrimination and unfair treatment. At the same time there are regulations that activate should you choose to cheat at an exam and therefore behave badly towards us and others. During your time of studies we will expect you to dedicate 40 hours per week to your studies. This comprises the time you are scheduled but also the time outside the set timetables. Sometimes this will seem really easy, but 40 hours might not be enough in other periods. If you already now plan to every week spend 40 hours on your studies, the journey to the degree will get off to a really good start. Your studies with us will be a memory for life and it is our goal that we in a few years’ time will be able to present you with your diploma as a stamp of approval and a toolkit for life in the real world. Maybe some of your best memories will be from the time you spend with us, but at the same time think about that your attitude and ambitions affect both yourself as well as your surroundings. You choose what type of student and co-worker you want to be during your time of studies, but you must also be prepared for the consequences this carries. Remember that at the university there is not always one ”correct” way of answering a question or solving a problem – different researchers and teachers can say different things, and as a student you have the right to get clear instructions for what is expected of you on that particular course: For instance: Are you allowed to work together? What sources are OK? What am I allowed to bring to the written examination? How is the course examined? What are the grading criteria? Your programme coordinator will give you more information on how to use correct referencing and how you know which sources are allowed.

10 The educative journey – from knowledge consumer to knowledge producer
Academic freedom – what is that? Scientific knowledge A degree – not a right, it is the result of hard work and is a stamp of approval for both you and us We offer possibilities; it is your responsibility to take advantage of them!

11 The Swedish, Multi-Cultural Classroom
A mix of different experiences and cultures A strength and an asset for you as a student

12 Good luck!
