1 The Sign of Immanuel Isaiah 7:10-14

2 [10] Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz: [11] “Ask a sign of the LORD your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” [12] But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test.”

3 [13] And he said, “Hear then, O house of David
[13] And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also?

4 [14] Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign
[14] Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:10-14

5 The Lord Himself will Give
God will provide for himself the lamb . . . Genesis 22: Christ offered himself without blemish to God. Hebrews 9:14 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

6 The Virgin shall Conceive
The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God Luke 1:35 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

7 The Virgin shall Conceive
Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:20 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

The Son shall be Born The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

The Son shall be Born When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. Galatians 4:4-5 “Growing in Christ and Proclaiming Him to Others”

10 Henri Nouwen “Jesus, in whom the fullness of God dwells, has become our home. By making his home in us he allows us to make our home in him. By entering into the intimacy of our innermost self he offers us the opportunity to enter into his own intimacy with God. By choosing us as his preferred dwelling place he invites us to choose him as our preferred dwelling place. This is the mystery of the incarnation... ”
