1 No Place Like Home Pilot Tester Discussion and Consent Training

2 Thank you! First thing’s first…
For your time and willingness to be a part of this pilot

3 No Place Like Home (NPLH)
Evaluation of three child welfare agencies’ use of family meetings with families receiving in-home services Process What does practice look like? Tools: focus groups, observations, surveys Outcomes Placements (number and type), re-reports, recurrence of maltreatment, etc. Satisfaction and service provision Tools: administrative data, surveys Multiple models of meetings, use and timing of which differs within and across sites

4 Your role… Is critical! To provide data and feedback about your experience working in child welfare and with family meetings To recruit families to participate, so that they can provide data and feedback about their experience To participate in the feedback loop – ongoing communication

5 What We’d Like to Ask You About Today
General Staff Survey All about you and your experiences The information is confidential and only the research team will see your data Used to help understand what goes into successful family meeting practice Other things that would help us once you finish What do you think about the survey? Is there something else we need to explain? Case Specific Questionnaire

6 What we need your help with in the next few weeks
Information About Families and Family Meetings Caregiver surveys (filled out by one or more caregiver) Demographics, Functioning, Issues and Strengths FGDM fidelity (filled out by family members and professionals who come to the meeting) What happened before the meeting? Who was included and what happened during the meeting?

7 Pilot Survey Feedback How long did it take you to complete the survey?
What problems, if any, did you have completing the survey? Are the directions clear? Are there any words/language in the survey that people might not understand? Did you find any of the questions to be unnecessary or too sensitive? Were any questions difficult to answer? Did the answer choices allow you to answer as you wanted to? Is there anything you would change about the survey? Give info on people’s comments from Survey Monkey as prompt.

8 Caregiver and Meeting Fidelity Survey Your Role
Consent Will families agree to be part of the pilot? If so, they have rights which are outlined in the consent form, including the right to change their mind at any time. If not, no penalty will come to them. Administer Paper and pencil surveys with Caregiver – self-addressed and stamped envelope with a flyer with a phone number to call for assistance Meeting participant – large self-addressed, stamped envelope for all surveys in the center of the room/table

9 Informed Consent

10 Consent Process Briefly explain the NPLH project and that this is an opportunity to participate and give feedback Provide informed consent form, allow the caregiver/meeting participant to read and, if willing to participate, sign Adults ONLY Collect Distribute survey Provide consent form and script here and allow opportunity to ask questions about its contents and the process

11 What you are NOT responsible for
Explaining the content of surveys to families People with questions can call the number provided on the consent form (have extra copies available for them to keep) Helping families/meeting participants fill out surveys People needing assistance can call the number on the flyer, for the caregiver survey
