The animal shelter of our town: Dr. Kibat – animal shelter in Wilhelmshaven

Who was Dr Kibat? Our local animal shelter is named after Dr. Artur Kibat ( ), a philologist and translator of Chinese literature. He was teacher at the „Oberrealschule“ (secondary school) and one of the re-founders of the association for animal protection of our city (1950/51). Artur Kibat left his inheritance to this association. Thanks to this the animal shelter could be built in 1981/82. Information about Artur Kibat:

Posters: Information

You get a lot information in the shelter about how to meet an animal , for example about kids and dogs. How does a foreign dog react an eye contact? Shall I touch a dog I don‘t know?

There are also information about the necessity of having your cat neutered and about the mythos that some kinds of dogs are naturally cruel (no, only the owners make them behave in an unnatural way!).

And there are campaigns against the cruelty in industrial livestock farming (e.g. transportation to slaughter houses, treatment of piglets). „See Italy and – die“ (transportation of horses to slaughtering) „Such sweet piglets must be … … tortured.“
