LESSON Two: Roles in the Ministry

2 LEARNING ACTIVITY Talk to the person seated next to you and ask them
What roles can young people play in building the Kingdom of God? In which areas can young people lead by example?

3 Timothy’s Roles – Assistant Writer
2 Corinthians 1:1(NIV) 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the church of God in Corinth, together with all his holy people throughout Achaia: Philippians 1:1(NIV) 1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons Colossians 1:1(NIV) 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

4 Assistant Writer 1 Thessalonians 1:1(NIV) 1 Paul, Silas and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you 2 Thessalonians 1:1 (NIV) 1 Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ Philemon 1 (NIV) 1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our dear friend and fellow worker—

5 Missionary Acts 16:3-4 (NIV)
3 Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4 As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.

6 Faithful Messenger 1 Corinthians 4:17(NIV)
17 For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church Philippians 2:19-23 (NIV) 19 I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you. 20 I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare. 21 For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 1 Thessalonians 3:6 (NIV) 6 But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith and love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you.

7 Teacher 1 Tim 4:6,11,13,16 (NIV) 6 If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. 11 Command and teach these things. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. 2 Timothy 2:24(NIV) 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

8 Preacher 2 Timothy 4:2 (NIV)
2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

9 Evangelist 2 Timothy 4:5 (NIV)
5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

10 Leading by Example 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Paul highlights six areas that Timothy had to be an example In Speech (From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks). In conduct. In love. In spirit. (Example of Kathryn Kuhlman who took people to her spiritual level). In faith. If you are not living it, you can’t teach it. In purity – If there is sin in your life it will come out sooner of later and the youth will pick it up.
