2 What is a PDU? Practice Development Units (PDUs) seek the development and sharing of best practice; interdisciplinary team working / learning and give a framework to guide and support development activity within the unit to ultimately improve the care given to patients. PDUs seek excellence, questioning current practice and challenging practitioners to develop services and the current supporting evidence base:

3 Why do we want to be a PDU?? University accredited award of our progress and status. Tool for integration of two previously separate fields. Increase morale. Promotion of best practice and safety for the patient. Let’s show everyone what a great unit we are!

14 Academic Links Two new PhDs in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery attract £415,000 funding at University of Liverpool & Aintree NHS Foundation NHS Trust. As part of a major expansion in head and neck cancer research in Merseyside and Cheshire, local investigators have secured £415,000 from several research councils to support two PhD projects.

15 2. Timeline. The clock is ticking! Submission is due in April 2012.
Accreditation will be in May 2012.
