6. Transfer 101
60 transferable units required for junior transfer to UC & CSU
Required units include General Education, major prep and electives (refer to for more information)
For UC & CSU junior transfers, only community college GPA & coursework are considered. HS performance is not considered & SAT/ACT is not required
Students transferring from a CA Community College as juniors to UC & CSU get first priority for admissions (as provided by CA Master Plan)
Research shows transfer students perform as well if not better than students who begin as freshman
Students can transfer to Private Universities and Out-of-State Universities with fewer units in which case HS performance may be considered.
Julian: Misconceptions about CC: Employers and graduate schools do not discount applicants with community college experience, and many recognize the value proposition. Because of the Master Plan, CC students have a competitive advantage based on the statute…the universities will grant priority to graduates of CC’s over CSU, UC, or private university transfer students.

7. UC Transfer
Six UC’s (UCD, UCI, UCM, UCR, UCSB, UCSC) currently participate in Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG)
Only available to CA community college junior transfers
UC transferable GPA required for TAG students for Fall 2016 admissions ranged from depending on specific campus and major.
Students must meet campus-specific TAG requirements to qualify.
Apply for TAG after successfully completing 30 UC transferable credits
Although UCB, UCLA and UCSD do not participate in TAG, students can apply through the regular junior admissions cycle. Average UC transferable GPA for junior transfer admitted for Fall 2016 to these campuses was UCB (3.80), UCLA (3.74), UCSD (3.66).

9. “Jumpstart”, our College Credit Program (CCP)
High school students can take courses at CCC
Parents: this is a key financial aid strategy!
Great opportunity to become acclimated to college environment, explore majors/disciplines & gain college credit
Online courses are available
College level coursework enhances application to four year universities
Julian: CCP students will be subject to the $46/unit fees, but qualifying students may apply for the Governor’s Fee Waiver. For eligibility, please check our Financial Aid page for income standards and process. Some high school students graduate from high school with 1-2 semesters of college of transferrable college credit which reduces their time and tuition costs.

10. Value Proposition of Concurrent Enrollment
Relative costs for one semester (half of a year), or 12 units of transferrable college credit would be:
$552 at CCC; $3500 at CSU; $6700 at UC; $15,600+ at Private University
Taking college level classes while still in high school provides a competitive advantage on your college application since it is evidence of initiative, commitment, and ability required to succeed in a more rigorous and independent learning environment.
Provides an opportunity to explore and expand subject areas and advanced classes not offered at local high schools (e.g., Sculpture, Video Game Design, New Venture Creation, Stage Combat, American Sign Language, Japanese, Advanced Calculus, etc.)
Experience college level courses in a smaller, supportive setting

11. Enrollment Steps for Graduating High School Seniors
1) Attend Application Session at your HS 2) Take Assessment Exams at your HS 3) Meet with Counselor for Student Ed Plan 4)Attend Priority Registration for Summer & Fall Classes, College Success Saturday on May 5th 5)Attend transition program, such as Summer Bridge for a strong start!

Be prepared: Research where your passion connects with purpose. Ask questions of people you admire: where did you go to college, how did college add value to your life?
Be present: Reflect on the best learning environment for you, e.g., small vs. large, hands on vs. theoretical, etc.
