2 Who He Is A Comedian Known as the best comedian of the last 50 years
He is best known for his strong appreciation for the English Language

3 Early Years May 12, 1937 2 months later leaves his father with family
Starts grade school 1953 drops out

4 Afterwards 1954 joins the Air Force
Also starts as a disc jockey at a radio station Few years later, 1957 was discharged from the Air Force Under honorable conditions

6 1960’s Out of luck, juggling 4 jobs Attempted suicide
Inhaling blimp exhaust Luckily still lived

7 New Job With his buddy from the radio station leaves Texas for Hollywood To pursue nightclub career as a comedy team Known as “The Wright Brothers.”

8 The Wright Brothers They recorded one album known as “Burns and Carlin.” Did stand-up at coffeehouses, etc. Later they quit the radio gig for the night clubs (June 1960)

9 First Wife George meets Brenda Hosbrook while playing at a racquet ball club in Ohio 2 months later Burns and Carlin make their first appearance on T.V. ever Him and Brenda get married in her parents living room, they have their honeymoon in Miami

10 August 1961 Burns and Carlin along with his wife Brenda, were detained
By police in Texas, mistaken for armed robbery suspects Treated horrible

11 Separation Burns and Carlin separate to begin solo careers
Years later George starts doing several stand-up acts First movie 1968/ nothing special 1969 he was fired from the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas for saying “Ass” Also stops doing acid

12 1970’s Start recording albums such as AM & FM, Class Clown, and Occupation: Foole. Meanwhile develops a cocaine habit 1972 arrested in Milwaukee for using indecent language and narrowly escapes getting busted with cocaine

This is what ultimately made him famous 1973 a radio station played a bit from Carlin’s album Complaint heads to the FCC Which then went to the Supreme Court The Supreme Court ruled that it was “Indecent but not Obscene”, by a 5 to 4 vote

But only at certain hours He then continued to extend the filthy language portion of his act

17 October 1975 The first ever Saturday Night Live Broadcast
George hosted that week with his various acts Was loaded on drugs all week

18 March 5, 1977-78 George’s first HBO special at USC in Los Angelas
Complete with language disclaimer Monopoly, Dogs and Cats, Names, Supermarkets, and Words

19 1980’s More HBO specials (Carlin at Carnegie, Carlin on Campus, etc.)
Was a host on T.V. June 1984 mom died lived to be 89 years old

20 1990’s More HBO specials (Doin it Again, Jammin in New York)
May 1, 1997 first book published “Braindroppings” May 11, 1997 First wife Brenda died of liver cancer married 36 years June 24, 1998 married Sally Wade

21 More HBO specials still going at it (Complaints and Grievances, Life is Worth Losing, Its Bad For Ya.) April 22, 2001 awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award Nov. 10, 2008 was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor

22 June 22, 2008 George Carlin was admitted to Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Montica, California He died later that day at 5:55pm of heart failure He was 71 years old He was cremated and his ashes were scattered

He did 14 HBO specials, plus all of his albums half of which won awards Wrote 7 books, appeared in 16 shows and movies Survived through 3 heart attacks, with the 4th taking his life Had 2 wives, 1 brother, 1 daughter, had a mother, but never knew his father

24 His Life Cont. Did pot, cocaine, acid, was arrested for disorderly conduct He didn’t believe in God, but didn’t consider himself an atheist Tested the ways of how to do comedy which ended up pretty bad But in the end he always came out as the better man
