1 Welcome to the Snapdragon Class information session

2 School Values We encourage an understanding of faith and culture in our diverse world, and reflect upon the Christian values of joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. British values of democracy, liberty, the rule of law, individual learning, tolerance and respect are essential to the every day life of our school. Democracy is embedded within school council meetings, and explored through national and international events. Children are taught to understand their personal freedoms and responsibilities. The importance of laws are reinforced in everyday school life through the clear use of sanctions and rewards. The importance of tolerance and respect, including of those from different backgrounds, is strongly emphasised.

7 Words for Learning Each term we will be giving children a list of words that they are expected to learn in the course of their topic. These will be found on the website. We also have Magpie words – which are words we have discussed in class and children can use in their writing. Year ¾ and Year 5/6 words are photocopied and they are expected to be used in their work.

8 Homework Prove it or Stretch it!
English Maths Topic Prove it or Stretch it! Choose a poem to learn off by heart and recite it to the class. (I will give you a choice of poems to learn.) Design and make a maths game with a space theme! Make sure there can be at least 3 players and include some fraction questions. London! The capital city of England – what makes it special? Find visual images and make a collage of them. Then write an explanation about your choices. Ocean deep Take a piece of text and write a variety of questions about it. (I will give you the text.) Make sure there are retrieval, inference and open questions. Find statistics about 10 different cities around the world. Eg the population, ages of inhabitants, price of houses, size of households etc. Make a bar graph. Research a city of your choice – write a non-chron report about it. Remember, it needs to be bright and colourful: have sub-headings and paragraphs and an introduction. Super challenge Write a book review about one of your favourite books.
