You must check each service if you provide it – regardless of the funding source.

21 2006 Reauthorization of the National Family Caregiver Support Program
Reminder: Eligibility Changes Grandparents and other relative caregivers, providing care for children under 18 years of age may receive services at 55 years of age or older Grandparents and other relative caregivers providing services to adults between the ages of 18 and 59 with a disability, may receive services at 55 years of age or older

22 Caregivers of Adult Children with Disabilities
Priority is given to those providing for an adult child with severe disabilities Services provided to adult children in this category are not counted against the 10% ceiling for grandparents and other caregivers providing care to children under the age of 18

Title III-E

25 Definition of a Caregiver
An adult family member or another individual, who is an “informal” provider of in-home and and community care to an older individual. “Informal” means that the care is not provided as part of a public or private formal service program.

26 New Care Receivers defined:
1. Individuals years of age who have a severe disability as defined in Section 102(48) of the Older Americans Act. Section 102 (48) The term ‘‘severe disability’’ means a severe, chronic disability attributable to mental or physical impairment, or a combination of mental and physical impairments, that— (A) is likely to continue indefinitely; and (B) results in substantial functional limitation in 3 or more of the major life activities specified in subparagraphs (A) through (G) of paragraph (8). Note: paragraph is now 13 as opposed to 8 in an earlier version of the act.

27 (13) The term ‘‘disability’’ means (except when such term is used in the phrase ‘‘severe disability’’, ‘‘developmental disability-  ‘‘physical or mental disability’’, ‘‘physical and mental disabilities’’, or ‘‘physical disabilities’’) a disability attributable to mental or physical impairment, or a combination of mental and physical impairments, that results in substantial functional limitations in 1 or more of the following areas of major life activity:

28 (A) self-care, (B) receptive and expressive language, (C) learning, (D) mobility, (E) self-direction, (F) capacity for independent living, (G) economic self-sufficiency, (H) cognitive functioning, and (I) emotional adjustment.

29 2. 60 or younger who has a diagnosis of early onset dementia.
