4 “My Notes” Story Devices – techniques that writers use to make a story more interesting and to enhance the experience of the reader Suspense: the feeling of a growing tension or excitement - Cliffhanger: an ending to a section, chapter, or book that leaves the reader in suspense Foreshadowing: hints or clues about events that will happen later as the plot develops - Writers use foreshadowing to build suspense Prediction: a reasonable guess about what will happen over the course of a story
