How do we write reviews? Plan your own review.

3 Homework Write your own book review about Private Peaceful, using all of the features that we take down today.

4 What is a Review? The main function of a review is to convey the writer’s opinion of a film, book, concert, play, etc. Always ask yourself: Who will be reading this? Write in the style appropriate for your audience.

5 Include both information and opinions.
Make sure to give reasons for your opinions.

7 Most reviews contain an:
Introduction Description Evaluation Recommendation

8 Introduction What are you going to talk about?
Give the title, the name of the creator and a very brief outline of the general subject matter of the item being reviewed. Write about what genre it is, is it a thriller, romance, etc.

9 Description Give a description of it, when and where does it take place? In the case of a novel, play or film, you should give a brief outline of the storyline-without giving away the ending or any key twists in the plot.

10 Evaluation Make your judgement, point out its strengths and weaknesses. Characters you liked or disliked? Was the ending good? How did it make you feel?

11 Recommendation Is the book worth reading? Is the film worth watching?
Give your verdict-but also try to identify the kind of readership or audience that will or will not enjoy it. Rating out of 5?

14 A Good Book Review . . . Tell us about the genre and what types of people would enjoy reading this book. Gives your personal opinions and thoughts about the book. Gives a brief summary of what goes on in the book but don’t give away the whole story. Leave the reader in suspense.
