The four slides we just saw are a funny way of suggesting that eBooks may the perfect reading and learning resource for you! While people still have a personal preference for reading print books, there are many advantages to eBooks that you should definitely consider when choosing a format for a book that you would like to read.

eBook Advantages Ours are FREE to use (unlike Amazon’s and Barnes and Noble’s, etc. ;-) An eBook can be searched for, checked out, and then read in its entirety without needing to set foot in the library! eBooks can be accessed and available on multiple devices, i.e. your device, a home computer, a smartphone, a tablet. They will all be synced within your Destiny account. And if you have your phone with you all of the time, you can also have your eBook available at all times! .

eBook Advantages You can search the text of the book electronically to find something specific quickly; you would have to skim and scan using only your eyes for a print book You can preview books --- read the first few pages to decide if you want to read it---all from the comfort of your home. Forgot to check a book out for class? Go online!

eBook Advantages The text and background on the page can be changed to suit your taste and your needs. The zoom feature can be very helpful. Electronic bookmarks and post-it notes are not dependent on paper, which can easily slip out of a print book. The built-in dictionary makes it easy to look up words that you don’t know right on the spot. Some of the eBooks also have a built-in read-aloud feature.

eBook Advantages eBooks can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged!!!!!!

eBook Disadvantages In 2016, you still need battery power in order to use whatever “reader” device (computer, tablet, or smart phone) that you are using for accessing the eBook. (For print books, you only need light to be able to read.) Reader devices can be expensive to purchase. But you now have a device (your HP Revolve) from BCPS that is free for this use! Not every book you would want to read is presently AVAILABLE as an eBook. An example of a book that is NOT available as an eBook in our catalog is Magnus Chase by Rick Riordan.

eBooks - General Some eBooks allow “one user at a time” only. The author of the book and the publisher decide on how many people can read an eBook at the same time. Ex. One reader at a time – Scorch Trials by James Dashner Ex. Multiple readers at the same time Four Secrets by Margaret Willey
