Lesson Plan for 26/11/2015 Shorefields, Clacton-on-Sea Objective: To teach all the children the Makaton sign language for the Olly Murs song ‘Dance with Me Tonight’ (Own Arrangement) Extra time: small performance for the children Next 15 Mins Allow the children to use instruments to play with as we all sing the song together. (This will give them another way to communicate through music) First 10 mins Introduce ourselves and greet the children Hand out lyric sheets and get the children ready to join in the song. 30 minutes (Majority of Lesson) Perform the song to the children a few times and get them to join in with the Makaton signs. Ensure that enough time is given to the children to understand the song and the signs and become familiar with it. Application This is applying the Makaton sign language, a form of communication, to music. Students Teenagers (13-16) All females Plenary Pack away instruments and lyric sheets Use the Makaton sign language to say goodbye to the children

Lesson Plan for 2/12/2015 Shorefields, Clacton-on-Sea Objective: To perform the song ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ to the children and also to perform and teach the Makaton sign language for ‘Silent Night’ Extra time: Repeat the Makaton signs for further learning of them. Next 15 Mins Sing and perform ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ with the children. Everyone can join in and this creates excitement. Give the children an instrument each so they can create sounds allowing them to communicate through the use of the sound made by the instrument and also this helps them image the song lyrics. First 10 mins Introduce ourselves and greet the children Hand out lyric sheets and get the children ready to join in the song. Perform Silent Night just with harmonies to get the children engaged. 30 minutes (Majority of Lesson) Perform ‘Silent Night’ to the children with the Makaton sign language. Do this again section by section to allow the children to copy and learn the signs step by step. Application This is applying the Makaton sign language, a form of communication, to music. Plenary Pack away instruments and lyric sheets Use the Makaton sign language to say goodbye to the children Sing ‘Silent Night’ with the children using harmonies, as this will be calming for them and will help close the session.
