The battle of Fort McHenry is fought and the Star Spangled Banner is written
Andrew Jackson “Old Hickory” a tough, revenge-filled general wins the final battle at New Orleans
The Treaty of Ghent is signed in Belguim and the US and England make peace. There are intense feelings of patriotism and finally a feeling that we are a united nation. The trade embargos and war effort boost American trade – we no longer depend on England or France for trade.
The Native Americans power is broken – future presidents will treat them worst
