Objective This paper is devoted to the design and implementation of a multipurpose platform (MPP) for power system monitoring and analysis.

Scope This Project is very useful in monitoring different parameters of Grid and simultaneously displays the parameters on LCD and also uploads it to a database through GSM Modem. We can access the database by raspberry pi microcontroller and we can visualize the parameters of Industry

Brief Methodology This Project consists GSM Modem RS232 Cable
Micro-Controller ADC (Analog to Digital Converter) Amplifiers Moisture, Pressure and Temperature Sensors LCD Display.

A modem (modulator-demodulator) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information. The goal is to produce a signal that can be transmitted easily and decoded to reproduce the original digital data. Modems can be used over any means of transmitting analog signals, from light emitting diodes to radio. GSM Modem has quite similar functionality of mobile which can send SMS and can make Calls.

RS-232 is the traditional name for a series of standards for serial binary single-ended data and control signals connecting between a DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) and a DCE (Data Circuit-terminating Equipment). It is commonly used in computer serial ports. The standard defines the electrical characteristics and timing of signals, the meaning of signals, and the physical size and pin out of connectors.

A microcontroller (sometimes abbreviated µC, uC or MCU) is a small computer on a single integrated circuit containing a processor core, memory, and programmable input/output peripherals. Microcontrollers are designed for embedded applications, in contrast to the microprocessors used in personal computers or other general purpose applications. A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a flat panel display or electronic visual display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals (LCs). Keypads are nothing but series connections of switches which are assembles on a single PCB board

An amplifier is a device used for increasing the power of a signal by use of an external energy source. ADC is nothing but Analog to Digital Convertor which convert analog signals to digital signal. Input parameter such as Voltage, Current varies with time and they are called analog signals but Microcontroller is a digital processor and will only accept digital inputs. So, ADC is essential to convert these analog signals to Digital signals. Parameters such as Voltage, Current and Frequency are continuous monitored and displayed in LCD by Micro- Controller using ADC and continuously uploaded in database by GSM Modem.

Advantage Maintains Cost is low. Monitoring is done by 24X7.
More reliable. Continuous updating of parameter in database and access from a remote place.

Application This Project is very useful in industries to monitor their parameters continuously.

Power system monitoring and analysis in large electricity transmission systems and at their interfaces with the distribution systems are a critical issue to observe not only the operation states and stability of the power system, but also power quality (PQ) parameters and events. For the reliability and quality of the electrical supply, necessary countermeasures can be taken against the observed disturbances through wide area monitoring the power system. Nowadays, various devices and instruments with different technical features are commercially available in the market for power system monitoring and/or analysis. INTRODUCTION

These are specialized in one or more than one of power and energy, synchronized phase or (synchrophasor), harmonics, light flicker, transient, event, and PQ measurements. Almost all of them use microcontroller and/or DSP based hardware. Although they are quite user friendly, their hardware and software are rigid, and hence do not allow the user to modify them for satisfying the possible measurement needs in the future. Most of them are more suitable for the measurements in the distribution and utilization sides of the power system.
