1 INVESTIGATING LEARNING STYLE BY RECALLING SELF EXPERIENCE SEEN FROM THE HELP OF VIDEO CLIPS
By : Jihan Zahra Nebula

2 The importance of the research
BACKGROUND LEARNING STYLE VIDEO CLIPS CURIOSITY The importance of the research

3 Are effective in 3 aspects; cognitive, psychological, visualization
Provide permanent learning Strengthen the connection between abstract concept and concrete one VIDEO CLIPS Develop imagination, support creativity, increase comprehension Jurich, 1990 Pekdag, 2016

4 Curiosity Provides better learning Is a motivation for exploring
Is a trigger of learning process Curiosity Demirel & Coskun,2009 Gruber, 2014 Litman, 2006

5 Learning style Doing the same learning task in different way
Is an individual differences in learning Learning style Kolb, 2005 Dornyei, 2005

6 Research questions What is my learning style ?
Why am I considered as that type of learnng style ?

7 Research Procedure Participant Research Method Kolb’s LSI
Technique of analyzing the data Steps of the Research Technique of collecting data

8 Research method Narrative Inquiry, the study of narrative is the study of the ways humans experience the world (Clandinin & Connely, 1990)

9 participant Learners, teachers, and researchers are storytellers and characters in their own and others’ stories (Clandinin & Connely, 1990)

10 Steps of the research Framing and positioning a research project topic
Formulating good research questions and purpose statements Writing up research rationale or background, context, operational definitions of key terms, and contributions or significance Developing and presenting a literature review Choosing and presenting research methodology Managing, analyzing, and interpreting empirical data and reporting findings Drawing sound conclusions and spelling out actionable recommendations and limitations of the study. (2013, as cited in Widodo, 2013, p. 1)

11 Technique of collecting the data
Autobiographical Writing (Clandinin & Connely, 1990) Interview (Clandinin & Connely, 1990) Questionnaire (Kolb, 2005)

12 Technique of analyzing the data
Coding (Saldana, 2009)

17 Abstract Conceptualization + Reflective Observation
precise logical industrious ASSIMILATOR Abstract Conceptualization + Reflective Observation analytical Cool, unemotional

18

19 Reflective Observation
Raw Data Preliminary Code Final Code The next days I kept on playing the CD and repeating Soledad with following the lyrics until then I reached the day where I could sing Soledad without reading the lyrics. Industrious Reflective Observation

20 Reflective Observation
Raw Data Preliminary Code Final Code There were text following the sound of the song (the lyric of Soledad). I liked to watch the video clip because it was not only showing the lyric but also the life of the 5 boys out there. Precise Reflective Observation

21 Abstract Conceptualization
Raw Data Preliminary Code Final Code ya mungkin kan make, and makes pasti ingetan orang kanu makanan gitu hahha (yea maybe because make and makes made me remember about food) Logical Abstract Conceptualization

22 Reflective Observation
Raw Data Preliminary Code Final Code I was really happy to give achievement to every school I studied at, and I loved English more and more. I chose English as my major to study at higher education with the hope that I could increase my ability in English language and also I could share my learning style to others so people can find an alternative way on how to learn English language easily. Cool, unemotional Reflective Observation

23 assimilator STRENGTHS : WEAKNESSES : Gathers all the facts
Goes into too much detail Organized and constructive Gets bogged down in theory Calculates probabilities Over-cautious Works well alone Reluctant to let go past plans Uses past experience More interested in ideas than people Thinks through ideas Needs facts Plans and checks Sequential thinker Avoids emotional reactions

24 conclusion It has been found that I am classified as an Assimilator in learning English. I figured out my strengths and weaknesses while the process of learning is in progress. Once I recognize my own weaknesses then I can be able to avoid them.

25 suggestion 1. Since the research only finds out the learning style that is applied at certain subject, the next researchers are expected to be able to find the learning style that can be applied in to all kinds of subjects. 2. The questionnaire is only describing how the researcher learns, not evaluating the learning ability, so, it is hoped that the next researcher will be able to discover new kinds of questionnaire that is more detail.

26 Thank you
