Why We are Here The World Economic Forum’s Gender Gap Index calculates the relative gaps between women and men in health, education, economy and politics across 142 countries, shows the widest gap is in economic participation and opportunity. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Social Institutions and Gender Index measures discrimination against women in social institutions (formal and informal laws, social norms, and practices) across 160 countries. Discriminatory social institutions perpetuate gender gaps across all development areas and impede progress towards social change that benefits all.
