2 Agenda Hurricane Harvey Enforcement Regulatory Activities Outreach

3 Hurricane Harvey OSHA has been working closely with FEMA, local, state, and other federal partners to ensure worker safety and health is a priority during recovery operations. Includes providing technical support, and distributing safety and health publications and guidance documents related to hurricane and flood clean-up and recovery operations.

4 Hurricane Harvey OSHA has a 25-day FEMA mission assignment to:
Develop the Health and Safety Plan (HASP); Provide onsite technical assistance during the establishment of 5-7 base camps; and, Chair the Joint Federal Agency Safety and Health Committee.

5 Hurricane Harvey OSHA has conducted more than:
630 safety and health interventions; 521 outreach activities assisting employers and workers in identifying unsafe or potentially unsafe working conditions. Response teams reached more than 9,058 workers; and, removed 2127 workers from hazards.

All Inspections: 30,494 Safety: 25,009 Health: 5,485 No. of Fatalities Investigated: 748 *37 Less than this Time Last Fiscal Year. Total No. of Violations Issued: 47,432 Average Current Serious Penalty Amount: $3,821

First time OSHA’s penalties were adjusted since 1990 OSHA will adjust its civil monetary penalties annually to account for inflation

17 Beryllium Standard Effective May 20, 2017, with initial compliance date of March 12, 2018 Proposed rule issued revoking the ancillary provisions (e.g., housekeeping, PPE) for the construction and shipyard sectors, while retaining new PEL and STEL

18 Beryllium Standard General industry provisions are not affected by proposal Comments were due August 28, 2017 Public hearing, if requested. OSHA will not be enforcing construction and shipyard provisions until final rule is issued.
