The EYFS framework is the legal document which nurseries, pre schools and reception classes must follow, so if your child has been in a nursery then the teachers there will also have been teaching through this framework and may not be unfamiliar to you. The framework consists of 7 areas of learning and development, 3 prime areas; PSED, C&L and PD which are the most essential for a child’s healthy development and future learning and 4 specific areas; Literacy, Maths, UTW (science, history, geography, ICT etc.) and Expressive arts and design (art, music, drama). This framework is similar to the national curriculum in Y1+ but designed to be more flexible so the interests and needs of children can be followed. The EYFS is all about children learning through playing, exploring and being active indoors and outdoors and through creativity. Learning needs to be fun for 4 and 5 year olds. Children are assessed on all areas of the EYFS at the end of the summer term.
