1 Cell survival curves. A) Cells are exposed either in monolayer or in suspension culture to different doses of a drug for a given time, or to a single dose of the drug for a variable time. The cells are then washed in fresh medium and serial dilutions are plated in Petri dishes; colonies formed from surviving cells are counted, usually 10 to 14 days later. B) Experimentally determined cell survival curve for murine EMT6 cells exposed to the drug mitoxantrone. Note that surviving fraction is plotted using a logarithmic scale against dose on a linear scale.
