3 Dates Oxbridge – End of September All applications – half term ES

4 Recommend Research and basic details completed this term
Personal Statements drafted over the summer holidays Range of universities and courses identified and most investigated ES mention template

5 Open Days Visit Saturdays and over the Summer Avoid missing lots of school especially in September Can just go any day – self guided tours WILL GET ASKED BACK BY ANY UNIVERSITY THAT MAKES YOU AN OFFER LJ

6 How to choose? Range of Grades Campus/City
Near/far/ease of journey/expense Structure of the course – exams/lots of coursework Content Contact time LJ

7 Course Content Vast array of difference even within the same subject heading History: York all modern, Leicester social and cultural Geography: human or physical Think about what you like and dislike within your subject, which bits are you best at? What do you actually want to be doing day after day after day? Look at second and third year modules not just the first year LJ

8 University or Course? 70% of Graduate jobs are not subject specific so think about reputation and quality of the university Career Specific: eg pharmacy look at how the course is rated Combined or new options sometimes require lower entry grades LJ

9 Gap Years Better to apply for a deferred entry
More likely to be accepted if miss offer If not sure apply for this year and can always ask to defer later LJ

10 Keep options open Early application doesn’t commit you You can pull out and reapply Not accepting any offers until April May Better to have choices than still be dithering LJ
