2 Mission of ISANS ISANS is a leading community organization that welcomes immigrants to Nova Scotia. Working in partnership, we offer services & create opportunities to help immigrants to participate fully in Canadian life.

600+ trained volunteers 175 qualified staff 90 countries of client origin 100+ NS communities served 43 countries of staff origin Providing service in 65 languages

4 Recreation and Social Programs for Families
Assisting Government Assisted Refugees access recreation and social programs and connecting them to community activities and events. The Community Connections Program is designed to help newcomers integrate and gain a sense of connection to their new community.

Use plain English and active listening skills Collaborate with settlement services Low-cost/no-cost program options Culturally safe spaces and programs Orientation and registration support Opportunities for integration Learn from your mistakes Cultural Safety: are programs/spaces culturally safe? how can we incorporate knowledge from the immigrant community into the design of our programs? building intercultural competence within our organizations (i.e., training); Recruiting culturally diverse and multilingual staff and volunteers) (the registration process can be very cumbersome for those with limited English language ability; online and telephone registration is designed for those who speak the dominant language and know how to navigate the system; more unstructured play opportunities that do not require formal registration, providing orientation of services/club/sport).
