1 ‘s The of Kindergarten

2 Attendance - much of our learning will take place together in class
Attendance - much of our learning will take place together in class. We do lots of hands-on activities and group work. Please plan to attend school every day, except in cases of illness or emergency! Please call (414) if your child is going to be absent. Art- Your child will have Art once a week with Mrs. Jubileer.

3 Backpacks – please send your child to school with a full size backpack that is big enough for Friday folders and snow gear. Birthdays – feel free to send a birthday treat or small trinket to school with your child. Please contact me in advance to make arrangements. Birthday Invitations – due to school policy birthday party invitations are no longer allowed to be distributed at school.

4 Communication - please feel free to contact me by or call me at school with questions or concerns at any time. Contact Information – my is and my school phone number is (414)

5 Dismissal - school ends at 3:40
Dismissal - school ends at 3:40. A note is required if your child is to go home a different way other than his/her normal schedule.

6 Emergencies - please make sure we have the correct emergency information on file for your child. If phone numbers change, you can call or send a note so your child's file can be updated!

7 Friday Folders – please watch for the black home/school folder which will be coming home on Friday’s. Please return the following Monday.

8 Gym – students will be participating in P. E. class twice a week
Gym – students will be participating in P.E. class twice a week. Please be sure your child has P.E. shoes and socks on these days!

9 Homework is practicing the skills we are learning in the classroom
Homework is practicing the skills we are learning in the classroom. Please help your child by encouraging him/her to finish math sheets, practice sight words, practice writing his/her name, and read daily.

10 Important Information - if you have any important papers that need to come to school, please send them in your child's Home Folder. Independence – we are working on becoming independent! This is a goal for our students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence.

11 Joy – Kindergartners bring me a lot of joy  Thank you for sharing your precious little one with me.

12 Kindness Students in our classroom are encouraged and expected to treat all members of our class, as well as others, with kindness and respect.

13 Library and Library books:
We visit the Library once a week. You will find out Library day on your child’s monthly calendar. Please help your child remember to return his/her Library book so he/she can check out a new book. Our Library teacher is Mrs. Wachs. Lunch: We will have lunch and recess from 11:40-12:30.

14 Math Expressions Focuses on understanding with a more traditional program that focuses on skill Uses an approach that emphasizes in-depth, sustained learning of crucial, grade level concepts Uses math drawings made by students and research-based visual representations in each math domain to support understanding and class discussion of math thinking Music Your child will have Music two times per week. Our Music teacher is Mrs. Murn. MAP- (Measures Academic Performance) it is our universal screening for Math.

15 Newsletter – I will send home a monthly newsletter and calendar in your child’s folder. Please make sure to look it over and stay updated. Names begin with a capital letter, and the rest of the letters are lower-case. Please practice at home with your child. Name Game: We will spend the first few weeks of Kindergarten learning our friends’ names by playing the Name Game. The Name Game also teaches beginning and ending sounds, syllables, and rhyming. Notes: Look for notes from the office and from me to come home in your child’s home folder.

16 Organization - please have a special, organized spot at home so your child will have a designated time and area for working on homework and other projects. Outside - your child will go outside if the weather permits. Please make sure your child wears appropriate clothing (no flip flops).

17 Parties - if you would like to help with a class party or provide snacks or favors, please let me know! The sign up sheet was out at Meet and Greet. PE- Your child will have PE two times a week with either Mr. Tobin or Mrs. D.

18 Quick and Quiet - as you volunteer in our classroom or our building, I will urge your child to acknowledge you with a "quick and quiet" wave hello. It is important for them to greet you, but remain involved in class activities. Also, the students should remain quiet in the hallways.

19 Report Cards: Report cards will be sent home in the Daily Folder or Friday Folder .
Reader's Workshop: Students learn the features of books, concepts of print, decoding, and comprehension skills to help them become successful, lifelong readers. (readingandwritingproject.com) Read to your child daily Restrooms: We have a restroom in our classroom and your child is allowed to use the restroom whenever needed. Drinking water throughout the day is also encouraged. RINGO: One day every month, parents are invited to come to school to read to small groups of children. There is no sign up for this. Please feel free to come if you can. You are invited to bring a few books from home to read. Your child’s teacher will set the day and time.

20 Snacks- Your child will need to bring a snack daily
Snacks- Your child will need to bring a snack daily. Please help your child find a special place in his/her backpack to keep his/her snack so it is easily found. For a list of healthy, peanut free snack suggestions please see the letter that was sent home. Safety- Please send a note with your child or call the school office if he/she is to go home a different way, and make every effort to attach this important note to your child's clothing. Spanish-Your child will have Spanish two times per week with Senorita Owens.

21 Transportation: If your child will be going home a different way than usual call the office by 2:00 p.m. or pin a note on your child that morning. The office will let me know of the change. I rarely check or voic before the end of the day. Tardiness: Your child is tardy after 8:45 a.m. It is really important that he/she comes to school on time, so he/she does not miss important activities in the classroom. The school office records tardies and documents them in your child's cumulative folder.

22 Understanding: Being an effective teacher requires understanding the needs of each individual child. Understanding the needs of your child requires open communication between you and I. Uppercase and Lowercase – we will learn how to write both upper and lowercase letters this year.

23 Vacations - please inform the teacher and health office of any known vacations.
Visitors – All visitors and volunteers must go though a screening and register in the office and pick up a badge.

24 Website - our website is updated so check it out!
Winter Weather Wear - please write your child's name inside winter gear!

25 I am eXcited to work with You and Your child this year
I am eXcited to work with You and Your child this year! Make sure he/she gets plenty of Zzzz's each night as we have exciting days planned for this year!
