2. Scholastic Article – History of Islam
You will divide yourselves in 6 separate groups.
Groups should have no more than 5 members in them.
You will be assigned a section of the article for your group to specifically focus on.
You and your group members will read your section only, and create a brief power point or Prezi summarizing and highlighting key information from the article.
You and your group will present your presentation on Friday in class.

3. Criteria For Success
Your slides should not contain “walls of text”, but bullet points with easy to read information. Use of visuals would be helpful.
Focus on the big ideas and main topics of your section, what info is the most essential?
Your Power Point or Prezi needs to be completed and shared with me by Friday, no excuses or exceptions
You will be graded on the slide’s content and your presentation skills
The entire group will share a grade, you either all do well, or all do poorly.

4. Resources/Consequences
The article is available on your class website for viewing; it is entitled “Scholastic Article – History of Islam”
Delegate tasks in your group, have some people finding key information, others creating the power point. Work well together, not socializing.
Hard copies of the article are available at the front of the room, you are not allowed to take them with you.
If your group becomes a problem, you will be split up and each have to do your own power point.

5. Section – “Overview”
Islam is rapidly expanding in popularity with over 1 billion practitioners spread out across the world
The word “Islam” is the Arabic word for “submission.” This refers to the believers’ obedience to God.
In the Islamic religion, God is referred to as “Allah” and is compassionate, all powerful, and merciful

6. Section – “Overview” Followers of Islam are called “Muslims”
Muslims live and practice their beliefs all over the world, but most live in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa
Countries with a high Muslim population are: Indonesia, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Egypt, and Nigeria.
In the United States, there are over three million individuals who are Muslim
