2 Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

3 Hezekiah’s Prayer II Kings 20:1-11
Hezekiah was 39 years old when this happened. He had reigned for 14 years

4 Who Was Hezekiah One of the most righteous kings in history
He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel; so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him. For he clung to the LORD; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the LORD had commanded Moses Kings 18:5-6

5 Who Was Hezekiah One of the most righteous kings in history Son of a wicked king – II Chronicles 28:1-8 Held fast against the Assyrians – II Kings 19 Restored the worship of God – II Chronicles 30-31

6 The Remarkable Event When Hezekiah asked, God changed His mind Moses – Exodus 32:14 David – 1 Chronicles 21:15  Ex 32:14 So the LORD changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people. 1Ch 21:15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, the LORD saw and was sorry over the calamity, and said to the destroying angel, "It is enough; now relax your hand." And the angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

7 The Remarkable Event How is it possible God can change His mind? "God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Numbers 23:19

8 The Remarkable Event God does not change Himself "For I, the LORD, do not change” Malachi 3:6 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. James 1:17

9 The Remarkable Event God does not change Himself
God does not change His purpose This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, Ephesians 3:11 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, 'My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure' Isaiah 46:10

10 The Remarkable Event God does not change Himself
God does not change His purpose Covenant changes are prepared beforehand Deuteronomy 18:15 with Acts 3:22 Jeremiah 31:31 with Hebrews 8:8-20 Genesis 12:3 with Galatians 3:8, 16-17 Genesis 3:15 with Romans 16:20  De 18:15 ¶ "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him. Jer 31:31 "Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, Ge 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel."

11 The Remarkable Event Point: God might change His mind to us IF/WHEN: We are righteous servants – Genesis 18:23-25  Ge 18:23 ¶ Abraham came near and said, "Will You indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 "Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; will You indeed sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous who are in it? Jer 5:1 25 "Far be it from You to do such a thing, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?"

12 The Remarkable Event Point: God might change His mind to us IF/WHEN: We are righteous servants – Genesis 18:23-25 We offer effective prayers - James 5:14-18  Jas 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

13 The Remarkable Event Point: God might change His mind to us IF/WHEN: We are righteous servants – Genesis 18:23-25 We offer effective prayers - James 5:14-18 We are fervent in prayer – Deuteronomy 9:18  De 9:18 "I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of the LORD to provoke Him to anger.

14 Conclusions Prayer accomplishes great things: When we are right with God When we ask in faith with diligence When we are humble supplicants  Consider how the world believes prayer works – without any rightouesness

15

16 Does God Hear You? Proverbs 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked,
But He hears the prayer of the righteous.

17 Does God Hear You? Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have made a
separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.

18 Does God Hear You? John 9:31 "We know that God does not hear sinners;
but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.
