1 The world according to Maya

2 Introduction What I did
What is this thing called geography anyway? What are its major areas, features and parts? What exactly is Paleogeography? Anyone heard of social geography? Good questions and for a long time I didn’t know the answers to these and many others as well. I decided it was time to find out. What I did I went online to different websites with a geography curriculum and started listing the various different ways that geography was broken down. I cross referenced these different ways of classifying all the knowledge about geography. There were lots of variations in both what was included and how it was organised. Eventually I got a good breakdown. Then I contacted my aunt who is a geography teacher and she gave me lots of useful points. I combined her feedback with all my references and cross referencing which helped get a good breakdown of all the different aspects of this interesting field of study.

3 Major areas of Geography
Surface of the globe Physical features Water Physical processes Paleogeography Atmosphere Climate Ecosystems People Continents and Countries Social Geography

4 Surface of the globe Covering the physical features, the physical processes and paleogeography

5 Physical Features Rivers Lakes Oceans Mountains Rocks terrain
High or low elevation points Rocks terrain Coast line

6 Water Oceans Rivers Lakes Tidal Pools Waterfalls Water cycle Indian
Arctic Atlantic Southern Pacific Rivers Lakes Tidal Pools Waterfalls Water cycle

7 Physical processes Coast line erosion Rising Oceans
Glacial landscapes and processes Rock landscapes and processes Natural hazards Tectonics How will the earth change in the future

8 Paleogeography Plate tectonics How rocks are formed & classified
How the earth was formed Eurasian plate African plate Indo-Australian plate; Pacific plate North American plate South American plate Antarctic plate. Sedimentary Igneous Metamorphic

9 Covering the climate and ecosystems
Atmosphere Covering the climate and ecosystems

10 Climate Weather Systems Weather Climate Change

11 Ecosystems Mountain range Desert Arctic Rainforest Forest Tropical
ocean

12 Covering where and how people live

13 Where people live and how it differs by location
North America South America Africa Europe Asia Antarctica Australia

14 Social Geography Economic change Population Globalization Development
Migration Tourism Urban environments Rural environments Energy resources Wasting resources Sustainability

15 Reflection I learned that social geography is about how humans grow and survive. And that paleogeography is about the formation of rocks and plate tectonics.
