3 Why Partial Credit Reflection?
April 2005 – Pat Averbeck of Edmonds CC at MAA Used PCRs for a decade, both in the classroom and online. Fall 2014 – Highline’s participation in the Consortium to Promote Reflection in Engineering Education (CPREE) grant through the University of Washington. I was tired of students looking at their 73% on an exam and shoving it in their bag with a shrug, never to be looked at again.

They allowed me to review my test to figure out and understand what I did incorrectly, helping me to use my tests not only as a way of tracking my progress, but also as a learning tool.”

8 Student Feedback Verbal Comment from a student at the end of the quarter: “What if my next teacher doesn’t give us the opportunity for Partial Credit Requests!?!” My Response: “They’re going to give you partial credit for free! Keep using this method though to review your errors and learn from them.”

13 Student Feedback Unhappy Student “I would eliminate the Partial Credit Request we had to complete for each exam. If we did not go through our graded exam and explain the errors we made for each wrong answer, we would receive 0% on our exam grade. Perhaps this assignment could be beneficial to some and be offered as an optional assignment to boost a grade, but requiring it for a simple error that doesn’t need explanation is frustrating and a waste of time.”

Re-grade Exam with PCR Only need to re-grade incorrect answers Score based on original work on test error correctly identified (Scoring Note) Most questions on this test are worth 4 points. A few are worth 3 or 5 depending on the difficulty (if you want to have a basis for comparing scores with the people around you). Thoughts or reactions now that you’ve tried it?
