8 Melting Pot In the late 1800s there was a mass immigration of people from European countries. They formed the American culture by combining their WASP backgrounds and customs from their homelands. Most American holidays and customs of today are of European origin.

9 Salad Bowl The USA is so culturally diverse, that today you can commonly see people of all nations. It is now called a salad bowl because while the cultures are mixed, many people like to keep their own unique customs and identities rather than blending into the soup with everyone else.
