7 Types of Questions- ELA
Selected Response (multiple choice) ELA CONSTRUCTED-RESPONSE ITEM TYPES asks a question and solicits the student to provide a response constructed on his or her own, as opposed to selecting a response from options provided. items are worth two points, and partial credit may be awarded if part of the response is correct. item elicits a longer, more complex and detailed response from the student. The four-point narrative extended constructed- response item requires the student to respond to a prompt based on a passage he or she has read; the response will fully develop a real or imagined experience based on the text EXTENDED WRITING RESPONSE ITEM TYPES item requires the student to write an opinion piece or develop an informative/explanatory response. Students read two passages and then respond to three selected-response items and one constructed-response item. These items are followed by the extended-writing prompt, which requires the student to draw from reading experiences when writing the essay response and to cite evidence from the passage(s) to support claims and conclusions in the essay. extended writing task is worth up to seven points. The extended writing task & the narrative constructed-response item are “on-demand writing in response to text.” Students write responses in a limited amount of time without the benefit of time allocated for revisions. The scoring process takes this into account and does not expect writing to be polished. Errors are not counted unless impact or interfere with overall meaning.

8 Types of Questions- Science & Social Studies

13 Questions Will the students test all day?
Students will begin testing at 7:45. Testing should end by 11:00. Times are approximate, and may change. Will the students test in their classrooms with their teachers? Students will test in their classrooms, but will test with another teacher. It is a DCSS practice that teachers of record, can not test their students. What are students allowed to do between sections during testing? Students can only use the restroom during the brief break between testing sections. When will the results be back? At this time, we do not know when the scores will be back. In previous years, a list of students in grades 3,5, and 8 come back first. We do not expect individual score reports to come until June.

14 Questions If my 5th grader, does not pass the reading portion what happens? Students that do not pass are asked to enroll in summer school and will retake the test at the end of summer school. Summer school and retake dates are not known at this time. What can my child do to practice the writing portion on the Milestones, due to the typing that is required on USA Test Prep? Have your child write their answers on paper for practice. A great strategy would be to time the child based on the times provided. Where can I find resources to help my child? Parents are able to use the resources from the website. USA Test Prep may also be used for student practice. You can google GA Milestone practice for more practice tests and test taking strategies.

15 Motivation!!!!!!!
