2. “Open Access” publishing
The AMS defines “open access” (lower case) as free access online without need of a subscription.
AMS maintains copyright so that it can act as steward of author’s intellectual property.

BAMS articles have been open since they went online in 1997
BAMS went online cover-to-cover in January 2009, but only available to individual members of the AMS.

4. AMS and open access
All journal content online older than two years is open
Open access institutional repositories (such as NCAR’s OpenSky) can post the PDF version of any article for which an employee of the institution was an author or coauthor six months after publication.
Recently published content is only available with subscription

Generous partial (and some full) waivers of author charges for authors whose institutions cannot pay

6. Reducing the barrier of subscriptions
AMS subscriptions are among the most affordable in science:
