FIRST CONDITIONAL IF + PRESENT SIMPLE WILL + INFINITIVE SECOND CONDITIONAL IF + PAST SIMPLE WOULD + INFINITIVE THIRD CONDITIONAL WOULD HAVE + PAST PERFECT IF + PAST PERFECT

3 FIRST CONDITIONAL To talk about possible or probable future events. To make promises and give warnings. SECOND CONDITIONAL To talk about hypothetical (imaginary and improbable) present and future situations THIRD CONDITIONAL To talk about hypothetical past events (events which did not happen).

If you study something practical, you’ll find it easier to get a job. SECOND CONDITIONAL If I were you, I’d study hard for my exams. THIRD CONDITIONAL If you had listened to me, this wouldn’t have happened.

5 AS LONG AS / PROVIDING THAT = “BUT ONLY IF”
She’ll pass her exams, as long as she studies hard. EVEN IF (to emphasize the condition in the present /future or past) I wouldn’t go on a diet even if I was overweight. We wouldn’t have won even if we’d trained harder. UNLESS = IF … NOT Unless we prove it is true, he won’t believe anything. If we don’t prove it is true, he won’t believe anything.
