4 hindu paths to salvation
(i) Bhakti Yoga (The Path of Devotion) (ii) Karma Yoga (The Path of Action) (iii) Jnana Yoga (The Path of Wisdom) (iv) Raja Yoga (The Path of Meditation)
2
Bhakti Yoga (Path of devotion)
The simplest path… Involves devotion and love toward a personal deity, such as Vishnu, Lakshmi, Shiva… It provides Hindus with a way to worship Brahman in a real way, rather than abstractly. Worship = prayer, rituals, hearing/singing praises to her/him.
4
Karma yoga (The path of Action)
The key to this path is good deeds and good thoughts. This will lead to the accumulation of good karma. Good deeds = unselfish actions that are done because they are morally right … not just for reward.
5
Jnana yoga (The path of wisdom)
A difficult path that requires guidance from a guru, or teacher. Followers learn about Brahman and atman and about the nature of the universe through the scriptures (Vedas). By understanding the scriptures, following the guru’s advice, and meditating… one learns how to achieve salvation.
6
(The path of meditation)
Raja yoga (The path of meditation) Followers of this path believe that moksha is achievable through deep meditation, or deep contemplation on Brahman. Through DEEP meditation, the individual acquires knowledge of TRUTH and becomes one with Brahman.
9
dharma Hindus refer to their religion as dharma, which means the code of moral and righteous duty. In order to achieve good karma it is important to live life according to dharma, what is right. This involves doing what is right for the individual, the family, and those around you. Dharma is like a cosmic norm and if one goes against the norm it can result in bad karma.
