1 Classroom Rules and Procedures

2 Effective teachers MANAGE their classrooms.
Ineffective teachers DISCIPLINE their classrooms.

3 Classroom Management Refers to all of the things that a teacher does to organize students, space, time and materials so that student learning takes place. Has a set of procedures and routines that structure the classroom. Is task-oriented and predictable environment.

4 Goals Are target aspirations not necessarily attained every day.
Long-term goals determine our daily actions. Your beliefs and goals will influence the expectations you communicate to your students.

5 Expectations Are desired behaviors or outcomes.
Make expectations known to students by directly teaching the classroom rules and procedures, provide opportunities for students to practice, and consistently respond to students’ behavior.

6 Rules Stated expectations or standards for behavior.
Have 4-6 rules to cover behavior. When presenting rules, discuss your specific expectations. Emphasize the positive parts of the rules. Post rules in the classroom.

7 Procedures A method or process for getting things done in a classroom.
Steps to be learned. Have no penalties or rewards. Effective teachers manage their classrooms with procedures.

8 How to teach procedures
EXPLAIN- state, explain, model, and demonstrate the procedure. REHEARSE- rehearse and practice the procedure under your supervision. REINFORCE- reteach, rehearse, practice, and reinforce the procedure until it becomes a habit or routine.
