What have we delivered? Since 1999 Annual courses (10) 274 participants from 17 countries 28% women (38% in last four years) Representatives of the social partners Next course 30 June to 11 July International Training Centre

CHALLENGES Provide advanced training in Arabic examples: Social budgeting; financial governance and investment; Governance of social security boards Adapt courses to the different sub-regions International Training Centre

Postgraduate social security training piloted by the Social Security Department Since 2001 the Social Security Department is building partnerships with universities to provide individual masters level training in Social security financing Social security policy development So far two universities have joined the initiative (U Maastricht, U Lausanne) Target group: present and future social security planners, administrators and financial managers So far about 150 experts are being/have been trained International Training Centre

7 Special regional training initiatives QUATRAIN…
A special programme in quantitative techniques in social security for Latin America (QUATRAIN AMERICAS) was launched in 2007 consisting of group courses for individual countries/institutions sponsoring further university based programmes developing computer based e-learning facilities that seek to modernise the life long learning of social security specialists A similar programme (QUATRAIN AFRICA) is being launched in June International Training Centre

8 Successes and challenges in postgraduate training
We have a number of former graduates in research and managerial positions in national social security schemes (inter alia Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman…) who have impact on national policies and practices Challenges We need to identify partner universities in the Arab States, Asia, Latin America and Africa to bring the university based training closer to our clients we need to expand QUATRAIN to the Arab States and Asia …this implies adapting contents and language … and finding the resources International Training Centre
