Subject Every sentence has two parts. The first part or subject tells who or what the sentence is about. Firefighters put out a fire. Dogs like to run.

3 Let’s Practice: Identify the Subject
Firefighters help save people. The flames were large and hot. Smokey Bear tells people to be careful. Wildfires can be harmful. The heavy smoke made me cough.

4 Predicates Every sentence has two parts.
The second part or predicate tells what the subject of the sentence does or is. My dad loves ice cream. Steven plays piano.

5 Let’s Practice: Identify the Predicate
Rosita is deaf. Her family speaks sign language. Her team won a trophy!. Rosita’s mom is a teacher. 5.The deaf students are signing.
