It all starts at “CNA” as Certified Novell Administrator. Then it steps up into a “CNE” Certified Network Engineer. Then to a Master “CNE”. Then it jumps to a “CNI” Certified Network Instructor. Then it ends at a Master “CNI”.

2 What is CNA? Certified Novell Administrators (CNAs) provide on-site administration for software users in a variety of work environments, including professional offices and small businesses, workgroups or departments, and corporate information services (IS). In short, CNAs handle the day-to-day administration of an installed Novell product: NetWare 3, intraNetWare 4.11, NetWare 5, GroupWise 4 and GroupWise 5. CNA certification is recognized worldwide as the standard of excellence for administering Novell products. Small businesses too corporate IS departments worldwide are using CNAs to provide personalized, on-site administrative support for NetWare and GroupWise users. As a CNA, you can provide this level of support in a variety of ways, from assisting users in a workgroup environment to handling entry-level IS help desk calls.

3 Why certify as a CNA? Novell certifications are recognized worldwide as the standard of excellence for supporting Novell’s Internet, network and GroupWare products. Your CNA certification sets you apart as a skilled professional who competently administers Novell and non-Novell networks. As a CNA, you develop better on-the-job performance. Indeed, by passing the CNA exam for your chosen track you will have already completed the first step towards a CNE certification.

4 How do I certify as a CNA? To complete CNA certification follows these simple steps: 1. Work with a Novell Authorized Education Center (NAEC) or Novell Education Academic Partner (NEAP) to plan your training path. Representatives at Novell-authorized training centers can help you plan your curriculum, choose a track that meets your career goals and help you prepare for the CNA certification test. To find the nearest authorized training center, click here. 2. Choose a certification track. To learn more about CNA certification tracks, use the Certification Explorer and download the CNA Progress Chart. (NOTE: The CNA progress chart requires the Adobe Acrobat Reader.) 3. Sign and submit the agreement form. Before you take your first test, read the Certification Agreement. After you take your first test, sign and submit a copy of the agreement electronically to Novell Education. (NOTE: Minors must sign and submit a hard copy of the Certification Agreement to Novell Education). 4. Pass the requisite test for your chosen CNA track.

5 What are the benefits of a CNA?
Increased industry recognition. CNAs are recognized as quality support professionals who have the skills to provide the support customers demand. CNA Web sites access. CNAs also have access to protected benefits via a special section of the CNE Net web site. This password-protected web site provides several secured access benefits including: CNA logos and logo usage information: CNAs can download electronic versions of the CNA logo from the CNA Web site. CNAs can also order duplicate copies of their certification online. Access to personal certification information: CNAs can look up and modify their personal address information online. They can also view their personal certification progress as well as access requirements needed for additional certification programs. Up-to-date Novell product information: CNAs can access current technical information on Novell products, access Novell’s public beta program, and download the latest patches, fixes and press releases on Novell products from the CNA Web site. Online access to key publications and programs: CNAs can access online publications and programs that enhance their knowledge and productivity.

As a Master CNE, you have advanced skills required to provide solutions to complex networking problems that may span across several different platforms and product solutions. Master CNEs are on the cutting edge of emerging technologies, and are able to act as integration consultants to maximize your networking investments. Your Master CNE training allows you to demonstrate your proficiency in several skill sets and applications. All Master CNEs possess in-depth knowledge of design and implementation, network infrastructure and network management. 13 How to get your Master CNE
To begin Master CNE certification, you must currently be certified as a NetWare 5 CNE. Pass the core requirement of TCP/IP for Networking Professionals, then choose your specialization by selecting three electives of core skills to complete your Master CNE. To register for a Novell authorized exam, contact your local Prometric or VUE office. How to Keep Current on Novell Technology To ensure competency in Novell technologies, all Master CNEs must meet periodic Continuing Certification Requirements (CCRs). CCR information will be available in CNE Net and will also be announced via Certification Headline News. The information contained here is subject to change without notice.
