6 Your High School Transcript
What is it? Your high school transcript is a record of all of the classes you have taken and all of the grades that you have earned. This is what is sent to colleges when you apply during your senior year. When you began the 9th grade, all of your grades started to “count” towards determining your final GPA, your HOPE Scholarship eligibility, class rank, honor graduate status, etc. Bottom line? ALL of your grades are important!

7 Your CORE GPA Why is it so important???
Your CORE GPA is calculated with the grades you have earned in your CORE academic classes – Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Foreign Language. HOPE Scholarship eligibility is based on your CORE GPA after you graduate. Also known as your “Academic GPA,” this is what colleges look at when determining whether you meet their admission requirements. The higher your CORE GPA, the better!

8 HOPE Scholarship Eligibility
3.0 CORE GPA as calculated by Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) in core curriculum courses (English, Math, Science, Foreign Language, Social Science) Must meet rigor requirements. Students graduating on or after May 1, 2017 must pass four courses from the following list: Advanced Math, Advanced Science, Advanced Foreign Language, AP courses in core subjects, Dual Credit Enrollment courses in core subjects.

9 HOPE Scholarship Eligibility
Zell Miller Scholarship 3.7 CORE GPA as calculated by Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) in core curriculum courses (English, Math, Science, Foreign Language, Social Science) Must meet rigor requirements. Students graduating on or after May 1, must pass four courses from the following list: Advanced Math, Advanced Science, Advanced Foreign Language, AP courses in core subjects, Dual Credit Enrollment courses in core subjects. Meet test component: 1200 SAT combined score (Critical Reading and Math) on a single test administration OR 26 ACT Composite score OR Designated Valedictorian or Salutatorian

10 HOPE Scholarship What does it cover?
Covers a percentage of standard tuition at a public college or university in Georgia. Covers a pre-determined award amount at a private college or university. How do I maintain the HOPE Scholarship? College students must maintain a 3.0 GPA at designated checkpoints (end of every spring semester and 30, 60, 90 attempted semester hours; end of every spring quarter and 45, 90 and 135 attempted quarter hours). If a student’s GPA falls below a 3.0, they will lose the HOPE Scholarship and will only be eligible to regain it once.

11 Zell Miller Scholarship
What does it cover? Covers 100% of full standard tuition at a public college or university in Georgia. Covers a pre-determined award amount at a private college or university. How do I maintain the Zell Miller Scholarship? College students must maintain a 3.3 GPA at designated checkpoints (end of every spring semester and 30, 60, 90 attempted semester hours; end of every spring quarter and 45, 90 and 135 attempted quarter hours). If a student’s GPA falls below a 3.3, they will lose the Zell Miller Scholarship and will only be eligible to regain it once.

12 College Admissions Tests
What are they? There are a couple of different standardized college admission tests. The word standardized means that the test measures the same thing in the same way for everyone who takes it. The results of these tests help colleges determine how well prepared you are for college-level work. The SAT and the ACT Most four-year colleges require that students submit SAT or ACT scores. Here’s how each of these tests is structured: The SAT has three major sections: math, reading, writing and language (and an optional essay section). The ACT has four major sections: English, math, reading and science (and an optional essay section).

13 College Admissions Tests
Students at ECCHS planning to apply to a 4-year college or university (for regular admission or for Move on When Ready) will need to take the SAT or ACT Most colleges will accept either test. If taking the ACT, it is recommended that you take it with Writing. SAT: offered at ECCHS 3 times per year in November, January, and May; registration is on-line at Cost this year is $57 (with essay); $45 (without essay) ACT: offered at ECCHS 2 times per year in October and February; registration is on-line at Cost this year is $58.50 (with writing); $ (without writing) These are national tests, so they are offered at other times and at other locations. Students can test as many times as they wish! Students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch can get a Fee Waiver for these tests. They will need to see Mrs. Denise Brown in C-11.

14 College Admissions Tests
A few reminders: Students are responsible for registering for these tests. The guidance office cannot register any student for the SAT or ACT. The registration process is a private transaction between the student and the testing company. If students would like to register at school, we will be offering assistance during Extended Learning Time. If not using a fee waiver, students will need a credit or debit card to complete the registration process. Security on test day is very strict! Students must upload a photo of themselves for their admission ticket AND they must present a valid photo ID on testing day. They will not be admitted without these items.

15 Technical College Admissions Tests
ACCUPLACER Test Most commonly used by technical colleges and some 4-year colleges as a placement exam. The ACCUPLACER exam is an untimed, multiple choice test that helps to evaluate your skills and place you into the appropriate courses. The exam covers content and measures basic skills in reading, writing, arithmetic, and algebra. The ACCUPLACER test helps to tell if you are ready for the rigor of college work. ACCUPLACER is not used like a traditional test. There is generally no “passing score.” Rather, ACCUPLACER scores indicate areas in which you are strong and areas in which you may need help. You and your school can use scores from ACCUPLACER tests to prepare a course of study that will be appropriate, relevant, and meaningful for you.

16 Technical College Admissions Tests
ACCUPLACER Test How to sign up: You must submit an application to Athens Technical College (or another technical school) before taking the ACCUPLACER test. Once you have submitted an application, Athens Tech will send you a letter with a date and time to come in and take the exam. ECCHS is pleased to be able to offer the ACCUPLACER test several times during the school year. Priority is given to students who are applying for Move On When Ready programs, but students who are applying for regular admission can take it at the high school as well if there is space available. (Tentative months in are Sept, Nov, March, April)

17 Dual Enrollment Opportunities
What is Dual Enrollment? In Georgia, all dual enrollment classes fall under the “umbrella” term called Move On When Ready. This program allow students to enroll in college courses during their junior and/or senior year of high school and receive high school credit and college credit simultaneously. Participation in the Move on When Ready program eases the transition from high school to college, provides students an early start to their college careers, and provides financial assistance to students and their parents.

18 Dual Enrollment Opportunities
Dual Enrollment Programs Move On When Ready – part-time OR full-time enrollment in college courses during each semester. Courses must be chosen from the approved MOWR course list. Students MUST meet admission requirements to participate.
