5. Today, scientists are still seeking the answers to the questions asked in todays do now. Experts in archaeology are continuing putting together pieces of evidence that tells the story of the first Americans that came here thousands of years ago. Can anyone infer what at expert in archaeology, or an archeologists does?? (TURN AND TALK)

6. Archaeologists are those who study ancient people, and this year we are all going to piece together evidence to study ancient people. Archeologists have learned a lot about the past from artifacts such as tools, weapons, and other objects that people left behind. What specific objects might historians look at to learn about the past? (TURN AND TALK)

7. A widely held theory is that the first humans might have come to America more that 20,000 years ago. This theory maintains that early people traveled along a strip of land that once linked Asia and the Americas.

As a class, we will popcorn read a passage titled, “A Land Bridge Revealed/Searching for Hunting Grounds.
1. How did cold temperatures result in the land bridge appearing?
2. Define nomad, and use the word in a sentence
3. Why are there different theories about how people came to the America’s?

9. Independent Practice
Write a journal entry from the perspective of an early American who migrated from Asia to North America. Describe what your life was like, what your travels included, what you ate, etc. MINIMUM 5 SENTENCES!!

10. Group Work
You will receive a picture of a man hunting a large mammal. Draw from the reading and the picture to answer your question.
Group 1 -What were some of these large mammals?
Group 2- To what modern animal is the mammoth related?
Group 3- Why would people hunt these mammals? What would they use them for?
Group 4- How might a human go about hunting one of these large mammals?
