Both groups have claimed the area for thousands of years
The United Nations has been involved and will continue to work towards peace between the two nations.

11. How Did It Start?
The modern conflict started when the United Nations agreed to divide the land they both claimed into two equal countries, a Palestinian one and an Israeli one.
The plan went through, despite the protests from Palestine and much of the Muslim world
However, today Israel controls all of the land, and there is not an official Palestinian state.

The major conflict began when Israel was created in 1947.
Israel took over the state of Palestine.
The Israelis did not abide by the borders drawn by the U.N. and continued to push into the new Palestine.

He fought to remove British troops from Palestine

In December 1987 spontaneous outbreaks of violence towards Israeli soldiers broke out across the West Bank and Gaza
Violent acts were committed due to false rumors spread by Muslim clerics
Developed into a well-organized rebellion
Civilians attacked with axes, stones, Molotov cocktails, grenades, and firearms
Not well prepared to fight Israeli soldiers
