Welcome to Fifth Grade! Mrs. Ding Jaindl Elementary School Room 315

2 A little about me… This is my 17th year teaching in Parkland.
My husband works at the High School, I have a son who is 7 years old, and a daughter who is 1 year old Schooling: I graduated from Parkland. I have my bachelors degree from IUP A masters in Classroom Technology from Wilkes University. Contact information: ext iphones – bookmark website

5 Room Parents and Volunteers
As you may know, the Jaindl PTO relies very heavily on volunteers and we spread information around generally through Room Parents who use the class lists provided them. There is a sheet on the back table, please sign this sheet, providing information such as your name, address, and if you are interested in being room parent. This is the list that the room parents will have available to them when sending out information about class parties, volunteer opportunities etc. Once all of these sheets are collected, combined with the other volunteer information you have completed this year, PTO will inform teachers and parents of the room parents for our classroom. Room Parent Must Be Able to… Attend monthly PTO meetings Assist for classroom parties Coordinate with other parents Chosen at random by PTO Must have clearances

8 AIM 9:00-9:45 Students will be grouped dependent on individual needs to target skills for improvement. We look at PSSA scores, benchmark assessments given in the beginning of school, and on going classwork and observations. These groups/teachers will change periodically.

9 ENCORE 9:50-10:35 Day 1 - Art Day 2 - Gym Day 3 - Music
Day 4 – Library Remember if we have a late start, the students will miss their encore for the day. If we are off from school, we continue with an uninterrupted daily cycle.

10 READING 10:35-12:15 Whole group first to introduce skills
Then focused work in small group Graded during this time for effort and responses Same assessments as in the past All assessments will come home in the Friday Folder All assessments must be signed and returned. An example of the Scoring Pages that will be send home in Friday Folders is in your packet.

11 RECESS/LUNCH 12:15-1:00 Prices:
Student Breakfast is $1.35 Student Lunch $2.50 Water is an extra. You can block the account from buying extras if you’d like. Peer Mediators meet during the recess time.

12 CAF-TRAC Procedure: Please write the following on the outside of envelope (no plastic bags): Student’s Name No nicknames First and Last Teacher’s Name Amount of Money being deposited* Checks made payable to PSD Cafe Account You can manage the account at My School Bucks (link found on the main Jaindl webpage.)

13 LANGUAGE ARTS 1:00-1:30 Grammar or Writing No writing Homework
Writing rubric will be sent home with writing pieces in the Friday Folders. Please sign and return. Grammar is assessed through LEAD 21.

14 MATH 1:30-2:45 Grades sent home in Friday Folders.
Multiple choice – online to view results Open-ended portion - paper and pencil All GoMath! Assessments must be signed and returned in the Friday Folder. An example of the Scoring Pages that will be send home in Friday Folders is in your packet.

15 CONTENT/Flex Period 2:45-3:15
Coordinated with LEAD 21 Grading: Inquiry projects will contribute Content area activities on own and in class Reported twice a year Flex Period for extra time to work on skills that need support, allow students time to work on their own endeavors (think going beyond), and to work on ST Math.

17 Tests Tests are announced via website and in class at least 2 days prior to the test. Also posted on classroom calendar for the month. In an effort to promote good study habits, encourage your child to review materials on a nightly basis. Study guides will be provided. Tests will be returned in the Friday Folder.

18 Grading/Report Card

19 Friday Folder It will be sent when there is adequate amount of graded work. All graded LEAD 21 and GoMath! Assessments need to be signed and returned. As well as the writing pieces. Right side = signed and returned Please sign a box each weekend to let me know you’ve examined the work inside. Return the following school day.

20 Book Jam On-going, checked monthly
One book per month must be completed in order to participate in a fun activity at the end of the month Students expected to continue to read through the month Book Jam logs will be completed for reading in school and out Students will share about their book with friends. Presentations can be as relaxed or planned as student wants One activity in the Book Jam Booklet will be assigned each month Read-In Day Reward near the end of the year
